Press Release: Mergermarket Japan M&A Awards 2020 Recognises Top Financial and Legal Advisers

The Japan M&A Awards recognise financial and legal advisory excellence in Japan-related deals and are based on analysis of Mergermarket’s league table data, with input from an independent judging panel of eight industry experts and three professionals from Acuris.
From the financial adviser nominations, Mergermarket named Morgan Stanley the International M&A Financial Adviser of the Year, Outbound M&A Financial Adviser of the Year, and the Financial Services M&A Financial Adviser of the Year. They also won M&A Financial Adviser of the Year in the Technology, Media & Telecom and Pharmaceuticals, Medical and Biotech categories. Additionally, Nomura Holdings, Inc. was awarded Domestic M&A Financial Adviser of the Year, as well as the M&A Financial Adviser of the Year in the Industrials & Chemicals and Consumer categories.
Other notable mentions include Daiwa Securities Group / DC Advisory which won the Mid-Market M&A Financial Adviser of the Year. GCA Corporation was awarded the Boutique M&A Financial Adviser of the Year as well as M&A Innovation of the Year.
From the legal adviser nominations, Nishimura & Asahi won the most awards including Domestic M&A Legal Adviser of the Year, Mid-Market M&A Legal Adviser of the Year and M&A Legal Adviser of the Year in the Industrials & Chemicals, Consumer and Financial Services categories. Also, Morrison & Foerster LLP was named International M&A Legal Adviser of the Year and M&A Legal Adviser of the Year in the Technology, Media & Telecom category.
In the private equity sector, the Private Equity Deal of the Year Large Cap and Mid Cap were awarded to Polaris Capital for its acquisition of Sogo Medical Holdings and Integral Corporation for its acquisition of Mamezou Holdings respectively, while Ropes & Gray won the Private Equity Legal Adviser of the Year. Showa Denko K.K. for Hitachi Chemical Co. Ltd. for its acquisition of Hitachi Chemical Co. Ltd. was named the M&A Deal of the Year (Corporate Winner).
